EPA members also believe in giving back to the communities in which they live and work. The following projects illustrate a sampling of EPA members’ contributions to give back to their communities.
ABC Tackles MS Mud Run Philly
On June 11, 18 members, employees and friends of ABC Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter participated in the MS Mud Run Philly. In its second year in the Philadelphia area, the MS Mud Run is the original and best mud run. It combines a 10-kilometer run with more than 30 military-style obstacles, all involving mud. While the Mud Run Philly was physically challenging, several hours of a fun challenge is nothing compared to a lifetime living with Multiple Sclerosis. ABC Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter’s team raised $3,628 (and counting) to help fight MS and is currently ranked 18 out of all the recreational division teams.

In addition to the 18 team members who ran the race, ABC members Allan A. Myers/American Infrastructure provided manpower to help build the 6.2-mile course.
Mission Kids
EPA is assisting with the establishment of a Child Advocacy Center in Montgomery County. The purpose of the Center is to assist children who are the victims of crime to proceed through the criminal justice system with limited trauma caused by interviews and treatment that is currently administered at various separate locations. EPA has pledged to coordinate raising the necessary funds, labor and materials for the rehabilitation of a farmhouse located at 530 Germantown Pike in East Norriton Township on the Norristown Farm Park property that will serve as the Center.
Hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief
EPA is involved in a continuing effort to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The Bucks Mont Katrina Relief Project (www.bucksmontkatrinaproject.org). Bucks Mont has adopted the sister cities Waveland and Bay St. Louis in Mississippi to help those communities rebuild and get back on their feet. The first project undertaken and completed was the construction of a $1.2 million daycare center. Volunteers from EPA contributed labor, supplies and funds in excess of $600,000, in addition to sending work crews to Mississippi to complete this facility that was critical to that area’s daycare needs. EPA Members are now working with Bucks Mont Katrina to construct a badly needed food pantry and animal shelter in Hancock County, MS.
MS150 City-to-Shore Bike Tour
EPA has sponsored a team in the MS 150 City-to-Shore Bike Tour for more than 10 years. This event helps support the Multiple Sclerosis Society with a two-day 150-mile bike tour from Cherry Hill to Ocean City, NJ and back. The money raised by the riders helps fund programs, information and assistance for the 8,400 area residents that have Multiple Sclerosis.
Boy Scouts - Cradle of Liberty Council
ABC Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter supports the Boy Scouts Cradle of Liberty Council with its fundraising efforts each year through the annual Sporting Clays Classic and other fund raising programs. The next Sporting Clays Classic is Oct. 18, 2011, at Lehigh Valley Sporting Clays in Coplay, Pa. Contact Jessica Pomraning for information.
