  • Safety Programs

    Safety is of utmost importance in the construction industry. ABC assists members in creating and maintaining a safe workplace. The Eastern PA Chapter offers a number of
    safety seminars throughout the year.

    S.T.E.P. (Safety Training and Evaluation Process)
    The Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) program was developed and written by contractors, for contractors. There's no charge for this valuable service, and of course, your responses are strictly confidential.

    The STEP program provides the following benefits:

    Provides an organized approach to analyze and further develop your company's safety and loss prevention program;

  • Provides a valid, objective method to measure safety program improvements;
  • Provides your company with safety performance recognition that can be used as an important business development tool with clients.

    STEP Award certificates for bronze, silver and gold levels will be mailed to your chapter for public presentation at an appropriate chapter function.

    S.T.E.P. Platinum Program
    The STEP Platinum program is designed to provide special recognition to Gold level STEP members. Applications for Platinum  are included in STEP applications. Member may submit application anytime during the year. Application is good for the year ending in December.

    Platinum membership provides a special certificate of recognition, automatic application for ABC National Safety Award, and participation in the national promotional campaign. This campaign consists of advertisements in non-ABC publications that target construction-service users.

    OSHA and ABC Construction Leaders for Safety (CLAS) Partnership
    The Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC) participates in a partnership agreement with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Allentown and Philadelphia area offices. ABC and OSHA both recognize the importance of providing a safe and healthy work environment for construction employees throughout Eastern Pennsylvania.  ABC and OSHA entered into one of the first such partnership agreements in the country in 2001.  The partnerships help foster mutual trust and respect for the roles each organization plays in insuring a safe construction work environment.

    The Partnership provides incentives to contractors that voluntarily participate in ABC’s Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) program and demonstrate superior levels of performance.  The STEP program, implemented annually by the ABC, is an objective tool that contractor members use to evaluate and strengthen their safety programs, policies and procedures. ABC recognizes participants based on their level of achievement with their management of safety programs, policies and procedures.  The four recognition levels are Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.
