PHILLY TRADES SCHOOL, ORLEANS TECHNICAL COLLEGE, ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH ASSOCIATED BUILDERS AND

JEVS Human Services’ career training school, Orleans Technical College, announces a new partnership with Associated Builders and Contractors, Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter (ABC, Inc.), to become their apprenticeship training center in Philadelphia County.

This arrangement will not only help to create more apprenticeships in the region and diversity in workforce development of construction and trades, it will provide employers with the opportunity to advance their employees’ skills through the offering of the PA-approved National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) merit-based training curriculum, the industry standard credential.

As a related technical instruction provider for ABC’s apprenticeship programs, JEVS’ Orleans Tech will help prepare new apprentices for career paths in electrical, carpentry, HVAC and plumbing. Orleans will use the NCCER curriculum (approved in all states) for apprenticeship training. Associated Builders and Contractors, Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter, is an ATS (Area Training Sponsor) for NCCER. As an ATS, ABC has NCCER-Certified Master Trainers on staff, whose function is to train, certify and monitor all apprenticeship instructors involved in the program. These Master Trainers will train Orleans Tech instructors to deliver NCCER content, then Orleans staff will deliver classroom training in a hands-on, interactive format within the Orleans training facility.

“We are honored to join with Associated Builders and Contractors in developing the skills base of the construction trades workforce,” said John Colborn, Chief Operating Officer at JEVS Human Services. “Construction is critical to the economic vitality of the region and offers economic opportunities for our students to achieve a living wage, advance in their professions, and start their own businesses. With over 40 years of partnership with construction and trades companies, Orleans Tech looks to the future in growing its educational offerings to support 21st century construction skills and apprenticeship opportunities.”

“Associated Builders and Contractors is proud to partner with Orleans/JEVS,” said Joe Perpiglia, President & CEO, Associated Builders and Contractors, Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter. “It is our goal to provide world-class training opportunities and a path to a lucrative career in construction. ABC Eastern Pennsylvania is happy to add Philadelphia to our growing training network.”

ABC has provided formal apprenticeship training programs that are registered with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry’s Office of Apprenticeship since 1967. Upon successful completion, apprentices are recognized at the journey level in their trade and are awarded their journey-worker certificate.
